The Runaway Empty The Runaway

Post by The Merciful Overlord Sat Jan 05, 2013 4:36 pm

Kana walked into the new Kage's office. The guy was young, at least for a Kage. Probably no more than thirty-two years old. He had orange hair, and brown eyes. In terms of complexion, he was fairly attractive. But that was not the reason Kana was there. She couldn't care one way or the other what he looked like. She was here on business.

The Kage, known as Yuuno Trancy, looked up to the brown haired shinobi as she came to his door. On either side of him was a black haired ANBU. That was simply procedure though. For a full month after the new Kage was named, he or she was to have bodyguards in case of assassination attempts. Kana knew the man. He used to be a special jonin before he'd been crowned Kage. "I was told you have a few concerns to talk to me about?" he asked, looking at her. If Kana didn't know any better, she'd say he had a thing for her. It was fairly creepy.

"Yes I do." She refused to call him 'sir' until he'd proven himself. "I've heard that you've been decreasing the amount of ninja that are guarding the village." It'd only been a couple days after he'd been named, and already he was making such drastic changes.

"That's right. Your concern?"

"My concern is that you're leaving the village virtually undefended. You're sending vast amounts of ninja out on missions rather than protecting the Crested."

Yuuno shook his head, and his orange hair swayed slightly. "There's no need to keep the village up as if we're a fortress. The time of war is over."

"Hayashi-sama did a good job of keeping the village safe by following the examples of the past Kages. Why are you changing it now?" Kana was already beginning to believe this man was a fool. She couldn't tell if he'd gotten irritated by the fact that she'd used -sama with the name of the deceased Kage, or because she was questioning his actions.

"I don't like repeating myself Kianashi. The time of war is over, and has been for a long while. Hayashi was a fool for keeping so many ninja cooped up in the village when they could have been out doing something productive. I have no reason to think that we're going to be attacked by any other village, and neither did he."

Ever since the 'success' of the mission in the Rock, Kana had been on a bad mood spiraling downwards. Nothing in her entire being told her that the mission had been a success. She'd called ninja out of their mission in the Sand, and for what! Her captain had been furious with her, and on top of that, Kymin had been killed. She'd come back to the Crested with the idea in her head that she had failed her mission. Of course it hadn't been long after that that Taroka Hayashi, the previous Kage of the Crested, ended up dying. And to cap it all off, Felix had lied to her, had completely gone behind her back with plans that she could've helped with, could've helped to prevent things from going wrong! If there was nothing else that pissed her off, that certainly had.

Kana's eyes narrowed, and her fists clenched. "Don't you dare talk about him like that." Yuuno raised an eyebrow questioningly. "He was ten times the man you'll ever be, and a hundred times the Kage," she said angrily. "You haven't yet gained any right to even think of him in such a manner!"

Yuuno blinked in minor shock, leaning forward at his desk. The ANBU, though they had masked on, looked as if they were becoming very wary of Kana's presence. "Who the hell do you think you are? I gained that right just by becoming the Kage of this village. I can say whatever the hell I want about him, because the old fool is dead. Maybe he would have lived a few years longer if he had been willing to retire early, but it's far too late to think about that now, isn't it? We're finished here Kianashi, you can leave."

"Oh no, no no no, we are not finished here," she said angrily, slamming her hands on the front of his desk. "You don't have any right, you piece of shit. Not a damn one, you think you're so great because you became Kage, but you're nothing!"

"No, you're the one who's nothing," he replied, his irritation growing. "You grew up in this village hated, and the only reason you stand up for that old man is because he was the only one blind enough to not see what you really are," he told her, waving the ANBU over. "Get her out of my sight."

Kana's eyes went blank, but a moment later were filled with blind rage, and as soon as there was a kunai in her hand, the two ANBU had their arms hooked under hers, attempting to drag her out. "You sonuvabitch, I'll kill you!!"

In that instant Yuuno was on his feet, his eyes on the kunai in her hand. That was it. "Kianashi, as of this moment, and until further notice, you're suspended from your duties as a ninja," he told her, as the ANBU dragged her through the doorframe.

Instead of throwing the kunai at the new Kage, Kana ripped her headband off, throwing that at him. But with her arms restrained as they were, it didn't even make it to the desk. "Fuck you! I quit!" she shouted, just as the doors closed behind the ANBU.

Yuuno blinked in surprise. Had she just said what he thought she did? She...quit? No one quit as a ninja, at least not in such a fashion, and they weren't about to start. He was gonna have her locked up for attacking him like that. After all, if he let something like that slide, what would he look like as a Kage? Everyone knew that Kianashi was a troublemaker. He hadn't been lying when he'd said that only the last Kage was blind to it. He supposed that for now he would let her go back to her home. But he was definitely having a watch placed on her. He didn't trust her. Her parents had been deserters, and he wouldn't doubt that she would become one as well. Or at least, their bodies were never found, so he was to assume that they'd been deserters.

Outside the tower, the ANBU were trying to calm Kana down enough for her to return to her home without incident. They even offered to call someone to take her home, or even out for a drink or something to cool off. They knew about this woman's temper, but had no idea of the Kage's plans for her. After a while, Kana just told them she'd walk herself home, before stalking off with clenched hands.

"Hey Azazeal. That deal still hold up?"

The tall shadow of a man walked from the darkest part of her bedroom, where she was packing things that she would need. "It never expired, Kana."

"Good. We're leaving tonight. I know they're watching me, but this time I'm leaving through the front gates. I might need your help."

"Even with all the skills you've acquired?"

"Even with all the skills I've acquired," she repeated with a nod. "I don't know what this asshole plans on doing with me since I've quit, but I'm not going to stick around to find out. I'm sure there's someone out there that can use my skills. I'm starting in the Stealth," she informed the creature, which seemed to grin.

"Ah, the same plan as last time. Perhaps you haven't changed much after all."

Kana was sure she felt an icy wave wash over her. She could feel those two white eyes on her back. Over the years, this creature had begun to scare her. She didn't remember making a contract with it, and that grin...that grin terrified her. She never looked at it anymore. She was sure that it would read her mind or something. Shadowshifter had been with her as long as she remembered, and though it claimed only to want to be her friend, she swore there was more to it. She'd been naive as a child and hadn't seen it, but now she realized the darkness of it all. "............."

Azazeal tilted it's head. "There's something you want to say?"

"What do you want from me?" she asked without looking at it.

For the first time since she remembered, a laugh came from the creature, a harsh, grating laugh. It made Kana freeze in place, and though she felt the thing's presence moving through the room, it made no noise. When she turned around, she nearly fell backwards, for the thing was standing right in front of her. Her eyes suddenly wide, she stared terrified into those empty, white spaces on the face of the shadow. "Have I given you reason to mistrust me over all these years? I've helped you when you've needed it and asked for nothing in return, haven't I? That hasn't changed my dear."

Suddenly, Kana found herself shivering. "It's...the f-fact that you've asked for nothing which makes me mistrust you. Everything wants something in return," she stated. She felt as if she'd just been put into the Snow Village in clothes that a Sand villager would wear. Her whole body was freezing and clammy.

"I need nothing in return, except to be contracted to you. It is what keeps me alive, in such a sense. You needn't worry." In one swift motion, the creature took a knee in front of her, it's head bowed. "I am still yours to command freely, ojousama."

Kana walked to the gates of the Crested, and as she expected was stopped by the guards. "I'm taking a break. I've been suspended, so I figured I'd go spend my vacation in the Sand," she told them. "Wanna check with the Kage? I have my suspension papers with me, if you need those," she said, her irritation with them making the guards a bit wary of questioning her too much. They let her through without much argument. However, when they did contact the Kage, he was furious. He didn't want to make something big out of something small, so he called upon the fastest ninja in the village to go get her. It would be an in and out ordeal. He knew of Felix Kuriyama, how monstrously strong he was supposed to be, and how impossibly fast. He had faith that the guy could take care of the likes of Kianashi.

The Runaway Empty Re: The Runaway

Felix had yet to resign as a shinobi, but he didn't expect to be bothered anytime soon, seeing as though he'd just gotten back. However, that clearly was not the case as there was a knock on the door. Felix looked at Serenity and then got up. "I'll get it." He went to the door wondering who would want to both them in the middle of dinner. The answer was clear when he saw two ANBU at the Blinking when he was informed that Kana had left the village after threatening the Kage's life, he sighed. "Alright, I'll be out in a minute." Felix sighed, just when the day was going well. He walked back into the kitchen and looked at Serenity. "I have to go somewhere," he said. He looked to Kiara and Nora. "Don't give your mom too much trouble," he said as he gave each a kiss on the forehead before heading upstairs and changing into a black shirt and pants. His headband around his neck as always he headed outside and started for the gate without another word.

Felix knew exactly how to track Kana down. It would be a piece of cake, considering that The Executioner knew her scent. However, he didn't summon the creature just yet. The yellow and black summoning couldn't move as Felix could on foot. His blue eyes scanning the darkness, he grinned. "Talk about deja vu." When he was far enough from the gates, he pulled his scroll. "Find Kana." The Executioner appeared, it's spikes rising as it sniffed the air. Felix waited impatiently until the thing started for the lake. "Same direction as last time too." Felix shook his head and hurried off. His silver hair no more than a blur.

"This scenario is familiar. They've sent your teacher for you again," Shadowshifter said as he ran by Kana's side as a black wolf.

"He's not my teacher anymore," she muttered angrily, keeping on with running forward. After a few moments, she stopped though, and stood in the shadow of a tree. She couldn't outrun Felix forever. The best she could do was prepare a genjutsu for when he came. Only this time, it wouldn't be to lead him away. There were few in the village aside from Felix who could run faster than her, so knocking him unconscious was her best bet right now. Shadowshifter turned into a squirrel to avoid being seen for the moment and climbed up a tree to keep watch as Kana started a jutsu. She could keep it held up for as long as she needed to until he came, but she had to be careful about holding her focus.

Felix, having done this before hoped Kana wouldn't try the same old tricks. She was older and more experienced, which meant she would plan something capable of stopping him. He decided to hold back and send the Executioner in first. "Don't hurt her, I want to see if I can talk her out of running." He then sent the summoning off in Kana's direction. Pulling a second scroll, Felix started slowly after his summoning. "What would provoke her to threaten the Kage of all people," he mumbled as he walked. "And interrupt my dinner...." Felix sighed. "I never get a break, even when I want to quit."

Kana waited patiently enough by the tree. She heard something coming towards her, but whatever it was, it was far too large to be Felix. She was still pissed at him for what he'd pulled back in the Rock. For a while he'd had her believing he thought she was competent, a decent ninja. Now she could see he didn't think of her as much more than a burden. Her arms crossed, she clenched her fists. She wondered just how he'd try to stop her this time. She wasn't some little kid anymore, now she knew better. And hopefully he knew she did. When she saw the Executioner get closer, she didn't bother moving, but instead waited for it's master to come along and try to retrieve her.

"Kana," Felix called. "I don't want to fight you," he said. "If anything, I just want to go back home and finish my dinner," he said jokingly. "If you want, you can come over, I'm sure the girls would love to meet you," he said as he came into view. "Kiara expectantly." Felix was just making small talk, to keep her calm. He hoped she didn't go off on him. He just wanted to bring her back home. "I heard what happened and they sent me after you, but I'm sure you had your reasons, want to talk about it?" He held his hands up in defense so she knew he wasn't a threat.

Talking. He was going to try and talk her back to the Crested. Kana had a blank expression on her face as Felix walked up, almost as if she was already bored with his attempts. She didn't find his joking amusing. Couldn't he tell she was still mad at him? She could only shake her head lightly when he asked if she wanted to come over. She was doing her best to stay calm, but the image of that piece of shit they had for a kage kept appearing in her mind. "Not particularly. All I know is that if I go back there, I'm going to get tossed in jail no matter what." She kept her arms crossed, but she didn't appear to be holding a weapon either. "I'm not going back so long as that fool is Kage." She looked over her shoulder for a brief moment, despite the fact that the Crested was in the opposite direction. "I have other places I can go. There's nothing left for me in the Crested."

His goal was not to make this a hostile situation. Felix wasn't even informed on what was going to happen to her, but he knew one thing, word traveled fast. "Kana, you and I both know that this isn't the brightest idea you've ever had. Leaving would mean you deserted your village. No one will take you in because you'll be wanted. They'll send Hunter-nin after you." Felix didn't want to see Kana leave like this. "I don't know what happened between you and the Kage, but if you leave now, in this way, the life you once lived as a Shinobi will stop. You'll have no place to turn to, no way to survive." Felix took a cautious step forward. "You worked too hard to quit now."

What the hell was he playing at? Was he waiting for more ninja to arrive, so there'd be a more sure chance of taking her down? That wasn't like him to wait for reinforcements, especially not against a single ninja. She shrugged when he said that she'd have no place to go and no way to survive. "I'm a ninja. I've been trained to survive." Besides, she could become a private mercenary until things cooled down. She didn't mind the idea of it. She paused when he said she'd worked too hard to quit, and unfolded her arms, looking at him. She gave a small scoff. "Yeah. Right. Worked too hard, but got nothing back. The shit I put up with in that village is unbelievable, and I don't have a damn thing to show for it! I-" Kana stopped, then shook her head. "I'm not going back there. The only way I'd stay there is if I were dead," she said with a small smirk, knowing the irony of that statement. She turned around and started walking off. "Catch ya later." She didn't expect Felix to let her walk away, so she was fully prepared to move if he came after her. After all, she was still holding her jutsu for use.

Felix shook his head. "Had you not been a brat as a child you could have had it easy, but you didn't. You wanted it your way, making everyone turn against you," Felix said. "I told you before, just because you feel like your alone, it doesn't mean you are," Felix said as he pulled a kunai when she turned away from him. The Executioner moved first, jumping at her with claws outstretched. Felix's kunai followed shortly after. He had tried to talk her out of it, but some people just didn't have common sense. Felix had been given an assignment, and though Kana had been a friend of his at one point, that had just flown out the window. Pulling a second kunai he prepared for a second attack.

As she walked, Kana's hand clenched into a fist as Felix spoke. She knew it was true, but she'd tried being kind. Tried being nice to people, but as they say, a good deed means little when placed next to a bad deed. The first thing she heard was the Executioner's movements, so she quickly spun, only to see that Shadowshifter had taken the shadowy form of the Executioner and tackled it from the side. Because of that sudden scene, Kana wasn't able to dodge the kunai Felix had thrown at her. It hit her left forearm, but didn't slow her down, as she already had a kunai out and flying towards Felix. It was half a second later that she threw another kunai just to the right of the first, and another moment until there was a kunai flying just left of the first. Running towards Felix, Kana went to throw a punch at him. Normally Kana would never try to take Felix on in hand-to-hand. He was faster than her. But right now physical contact was the only way she could put her genjutsu into effect.

Felix couldn't go right so he was going to go left, but now that was impossible too. Three kunai and Kana were coming his way and something had stopped his summoning. A good ninja is always prepared, Felix thought to himself as he took a step back, activating the scroll from earlier. Ninja Art: Hidden Dagger. Felix took another step back so that he was behind the scroll. An explosion of smoke and there was a thick smoke blinding everything within ten feet, followed by several daggers shooting from the ground. Felix didn't want to fight Kana. What would be gained from this senseless fight? Nothing.

At this point, Kana figured, she couldn't do any other jutsu without expelling the one she already had prepared, but if she wasn't in Felix's view, she could get another one off just as easy. When she saw the poof of smoke from a scroll Felix suddenly pulled out, Kana quickly ducked behind a tree, doing a jutsu and sending a clone out from the other side of the tree to attack Felix after dodging the daggers that came from the ground. Using an old jutsu to cloak herself from Felix's sight, the real Kana silently made her way over to Felix while starting another jutsu. Since the clone would disappear after being hit, she'd only have one chance at this.

Felix stepped back with a new kunai in hand. He was listening for any signs of Kana, but all he could hear were daggers and the Executioner's growling. When he finally heard footsteps, he moved to the left and aimed a blow at the figure in the smoke. He had no idea this was a decoy.

As soon as Kana's clone disappeared, the real Kana came up behind Felix and let her invisibility jutsu drop before wrapping an arm around his neck and holding him to her. "I'm not as useless as you thought, am I," she said coldly, putting two fingers on his forehead with her free hand. "Ninja Art: Sleeping Wish." When Kana was sure the jutsu had taken effect, she let Felix fall forward and stepped back. Hopefully the Executioner would either disappear or leave her alone entirely since Felix would be outcold. She looked around to make sure.

Felix blinked. "Clone..." When he felt Kana put her arm around his neck, he expected a kunai to followed, but instead she whispered something he didn't understand. He'd never thought of her as useless. When he was caught in the jutsu, Felix was unaware that he'd fallen, but he was aware of the blue eyed girl running past him, laughing joyously. "Come on Felix," she called. "It won't be any fun if you just stand there." Felix blinked. "I'm dreaming. I have to be dreaming." He however followed after Meridian, following her orange hair over the hill towards the meadows. "Wait for me," he called. Because of the sudden lose of concentration and the overwhelming peace, The Executioner was confused and thus disappeared. Felix was in a dream he never wanted to awake from.

Kana sighed when the Executioner disappeared, and the Shadowshifter resumed the form of a black wolf, trotting up next to her and looking up at her. "Your wound?" it asked. Kana simply shook her head. "It's just a kunai, I'll live til we're further away," she said, starting forward, but giving a glance back at Felix. They'd find him soon enough. "Let's go," she said, starting towards the Stealth. Then again, she was starting to wonder about what Felix said. If she was a missing ninja, maybe it'd be better to lay low for a while. Find a small, unknown village. Yeah, that'd work.

Felix woke up in the hospital, which he found weird. One moment he'd been fighting Kana, then he was following Meridian as if she'd never died. Now he was here? Felix shook his head and looked around. "How did this even happen," he wondered aloud. His blue eyes blinked several times and then he looked to the door. He had to get out of here and report to the Kage. Whatever Kana had done, she was cruel for it. She had no right to invade his memories like that. His blue eyes became somber. "Meridian," he whispered, looking down at the sheets.

(Okay, has to be said: Awww.)

Soon after Felix woke up, a nurse entered the room to check on him, smiling when she found him awake. "Oh good, you woke up. How're you feeling?" They had checked for poison in him and found none, but sometimes if genjutsu was held for too long, side effects could take place, usually dizziness or something of the like. The clock on the wall of the room read 5 o'clock. "You were under a pretty powerful genjutsu. We couldn't break it, so you were here since last night. Almost twelve hours you were under it. I guess it's caster got too far away." A pause. "Or ran out of chakra," she said with a shrug, walking over to look at the file at the end of Felix's bed, waiting for his answer.

Felix looked at the nurse when she came in. His blue eyes inattentive as she spoke to him. It was only when she stopped speaking did he actually snap out of the daze he was in. "Genjutsu?" Felix's heart twisted at the thought of something so real being fake. He sighed heavily. "12 hours...has my daughters been here?" He shook his head. He should probably answer her question. "I feel fine." Physically sure, emotionally, not a chance. He'd never forgive Kana for this, ever!

The nurse looked to him as he asked if his daughters had been there, giving a smile and a nod towards the table next to him, where there sat flowers and a card that read "Get well daddy". Putting the file down, she looked to Felix. "Their mother had been worried about bringing them here, because she wasn't sure how injured you'd be." She paused and then gave an apologetic smile. "But that's not really my business to tell. If you feel fine, you're free to leave," she told him. "Press the call button if you need anything," she told him, walking towards the door. "Oh, and please don't forget to sign out."

He kind of wished that Serenity wouldn't have brought the kids. He wasn't complaining, but he didn't want them seeing him in the hospital so soon after his return. They'd be worried. Felix sighed heavily once more. "Um, yeah, thanks," he said when the nurse said call if he needed anything. Getting out of bed he nodded when told to sign out. He was known for not doing that. Getting dressed, he looked out the window one last time. He hadn't brought Kana back....so where was she now?
