The Village of Fallen Rains Empty The Village of Fallen Rains

Post by The Godfather Sun Aug 19, 2012 12:10 am

Felix, a twelve year old Shinobi in training was sitting on a boulder alone, watching the rapids in the river. It was unusually strong today. Maybe it was raining upstream. Whatever it was, Felix didn't care, he just wanted to watch. Laying on his stomach, he kicked his legs up and down as he watched the water go by. A thousand times his mother had told him not to go near the water, but Felix was drawn to it. He loved the water. He loved to swim. Who wouldn't. This was the Village of Fallen Rains. Water was their element. Felix blinked bright blue eyes and smiled as a fish jumped out of the water. If it wasn't for the rapids, Felix himself would have jumped right in with the fish. He wasn't a fisher or anything, but it was fun catching fish when they jumped out of the water. He'd learned from a friend in the village, that same friend was a fisherman. That wasn't the life for Felix though. He wanted to be a ninja, just like his dad. Even if he didn't know the guy. His mother had told him all about the Jonin, and that was all Felix needed to know to be inspired.

The Village of Fallen Rains Empty Re: The Village of Fallen Rains

Post by The Merciful Overlord Sun Aug 19, 2012 12:41 am

At little over a millennium old, Serenity had gotten back into her old habits or treasure hunting. But she never went after anything too big anymore. She had no team, so no one to watch her back if she made too many enemies on her travels. So now she had to limit herself to one minor treasure hunt every century or so. She didn't like it. In fact, she was currently trying to find a way to reverse her immortality. She'd never wanted it to begin with. It had been Jake's, not hers. But, after what had happened to her nearly a century before, with those witch trials...she was glad that neither Jake or Liora had been the ones to go through that.

Looking up from her map for the moment, Serenity froze in place when she realized that right in front of her stood part of the puzzle. It was an animal, but something was wrong. The animal was a giant wolf. But, didn't wolves normally attack? Then...why was this one running away?

Serenity blinked. It was running away!

Shoving the map into her pocket, Serenity ran after the animal at a sprint, but couldn't nearly keep up with it. As it headed over a hill and out of sight, the blond immortal pursued, only to find the other side of the hill was covered in loose rocks, upon which she slipped, tumbling down the rest of the way and straight into a river, whose rapids were currently too strong for her to fight. Being taken downstream, Serenity could only bring herself above water briefly, and nearly had several (what would have been fatal to a mortal) crashes into sharp rocks in the river. As it was, she still ended up cut by most of them, and banging into many more.

Felix was waiting for another fish to pop up, but what he witnessed was not a fish at all, but a wad of blond hair. Felix stood up and quickly ran along the edge of the water. If whoever continued to go down the river they would be sucked into the Lake of the Abyss. Felix now remembered why his mother didn't want him playing by the river. He shook his head and raced ahead. "Hang on," he called. The young boy came to a stop near a small leaning tree. It was long enough to reach to the other bank, but not stable enough to hold both their weight. "Oh well," Felix mumbled as he cut the tree with a kunai. It fell perfectly cross to the other side. Felix quickly crossed to the middle and held his arms out, catching whoever was in the water by the shirt. Unfortunately Felix didn't consider that the tree would move with impact. It snapped in two with the force of the rapids, his weight, and another human body. Felix didn't recall the water ever being this crazy. Kicking his legs frantically to stay afloat he looked for a way out of this.

Serenity was usually so good at holding her breath underwater. But being knocked around against rocks pulled the breath right from her. Every time she came up above water, she could only gasp for air. Once she thought she'd heard someone call to her, but she couldn't be sure. In her mind she was pegging this as maybe another year in a coma until she awoke in some strange place surrounded by strange people. It wouldn't have been the first time it'd happened. But when Serenity felt something grab her shirt, she was brought above water long enough to see a flash of silver and to take another gasp of air. But then the silver had also been dragged into the water. She didn't want to take anyone down with her! What was the person doing?!

Nice work Felix, now you're going to get yourself killed, the young ninja scolded himself. However, Felix wasn't going down without a fight. He lived to swim, and these rapids wouldn't be the end of him. This would be a story to tell all of his friends later on today. Felix pulled a scroll from his pockets. The entire thing was soaked, and the words were smeared but all the same they were readable.

"Kane," he said once he was able to catch a moment of oxygen before being dragged back under the water. The blue eyed child held his breath, and unlike other people, stopped fighting the current and let it drag him downstream, along with whoever had fallen in. A small explosion occurred and then Felix smashed into something solid...and furry. Felix sighed with relief and started to drag the other person out of the water, safe from the rapids. Dragging the blond onto land, Felix was surprised to see a woman. "Ma'am, are you okay?" He asked. He peered down at the woman with blue eyes as Kane, who happened to be a giant badger also exited the water, and shook out his slicked down fur.

When Serenity felt them both pulled under the water, she felt an almost crushing sensation. She'd caused the death of yet another person. But then, something else happened. The two of them smacked into something, and before she knew it, Serenity could feel the cold wind on her skin as she was pulled out of the water. When she was on land, she started coughing, trying to get air back into her lungs. While she didn't need to breathe to live, she still needed it to function properly. Hearing the voice of a kid, Serenity forced her coughs down enough to speak. "W-what the hell were you thinking k-kid?" she coughed. "You coulda g-got yourself killed. Don't you think? I-" she gave a brief pause to cough once more before clearing her throat. "I woulda got outta there downstream," she said, her voice a small bit scratchy from the water. She didn't like the fact that this kid had risked his life for her. He didn't need to know she was immortal. She wouldn't tell him. But she was angry now. For a moment she'd thought that she'd caused the death of another innocent. And a kid no less...

Felix fell back onto the ground and cross his legs as the blond woman started to yell at him. Wringing out his white t-shirt he tuned her out. When she stopped talking he looked up at her. "You're really ungrateful lady. I just saved your life. There was no way you would ever make it 'downstream'. You would have died before you even made it there. There's some really jagged rocks right before you hit the lake. You would have been shredded like a piece of cheese." Felix leaned back as Kane laid behind him. Felix loved the giant badger. He was fierce, but well trained. The summoning was also a great way to travel. Wringing out his grey shorts, Felix looked at the woman. "Oh, and by the way, you're welcome." Felix gave a big grin.

Giving a small sigh, Serenity pushed herself to sitting and looked around. Well, that giant wolf was long gone by now. She turned her gaze back to the silver haired kid as he explained how her 'death' would've went. As it was, she felt a bit of blood starting to finally trickle it's way down the side of her head from a cut she'd gotten on her forehead. Putting her hand up to the cut, her hand glowed a light blue, but she didn't take her eyes off the kid. "You should weigh your life more carefully than that. Life for people like you is short, no matter how young you may be." She couldn't be harsh to the kid. He was doing his job, wasn't he. She could see he was a ninja. When Serenity took her hand from her head a moment later, the cut that had been there was gone. "You hurt anywhere kid?" she asked. She didn't need to thank him for such a stupid task, but if he was hurt, she could at least take care of his wounds. It was her fault if he was hurt to begin with.

"No, I'm fine," he told her. "And my name is not kid, it's Felix." He rubbed his hands through Kane's fur. "You're a healer, aren't you? That's pretty cool. And, just so you know, us ninja," he pointed to the headband around his neck, "we live freely without any regards to our lives. If my mother heard me say that she'd absolutely have my head." Felix smiled brightly. "Anyway, I'm a pretty good swimmer anyway, so the rapids weren't all that bad. Apparently, according to everyone in the village, I was born destined to swim." Felix was such a lively kid. "Where are you from?"

Serenity looked at him as he stated his name, shaking her head slightly with a light sigh. She nodded when he asked if she was a healer. The blond teen couldn't help but to smile when he said that his mom would have his head upon hearing him speak like that. "And she'd be right to. Ninja or not, you should always give regard to your own life. It's just as important as anyone else's," she told him. She blinked when he told her that everyone said he was destined to swim. She shrugged at his question. "Here and there. I'm not from any one place in particular."

Felix shrugged. "I like to live life to the fullest, with regards to my life of course. My mom needs me, I'm not going to abandon her. Plus all of my friends need me too. Who else is going to organize all the baseball games, or the races, or the swim meets, which I always win. I mean, I can't just up and disappear. I'm going to have to live forever so that no one misses me, because I'm epic." Felix started to laugh. "You're from all over? How is that possible? Are you a gypsy? Or a nomad?" Felix leaned forward with interest. "Come on, don't hold back onme. I've never met a gypsy before."

Serenity couldn't help but to smile at this kid. Something about him just made her. He was so happy. She envied him, honestly. Her smile faded a bit when he said that he wished he could be immortal. "You should be careful what you wish for kid," she told him, calling him kid, though she knew his name. When he started firing off questions, Serenity reached behind her head to squeeze her hair out, smiling a bit. "I'm a treasure hunter, actually," she told him lightly. What was the harm in simple conversation, after all. "But when I need resources, I travel around and offer to be a doctor wherever it's needed."

Felix's eyes widened. "Treasure hunter??? No way, not to be rude or anything ma'am, but I've never heard of a woman treasure hunter. But I bet you're pretty cool, aside from falling into rivers and stuff, but that's the best part, facing danger at every turn, collecting treasures before everyone else." Felix stood up and picked up a stick. "Fighting with swords for what is rightly yours. Bathing in riches. Sailing across seas. Traveling from continent to continent. It's a never ending adventure!" Felix fell back into the grass. "I would love to be a treasure hunter."

Serenity raised an eyebrow at the kid when he started by saying how he'd never heard of a woman treasure hunter before. She smiled a bit when he started ranting on how exciting it would be to be a treasure hunter. "I would like to say that it's more than just all that...but truly, I'd be lying. But..." her smile faded a bit and she looked down. "There's more dangers than you'd think kid. Sometimes...while looking for precious treasure, you might find you lose something even more precious." It might've been a bit cryptic, but that was all she'd say on it. "Tell me kid. What's it like to be a ninja? Do you like it?"

Felix rolled over onto his stomach and kicked his legs up in the air. "You know, lady you ruin all the fun with your riddles and what not," he said with a sigh. "Anyway, the day is still young and I've only got a limited amount of time on this earth, so I should use it wisely." Felix scratched his head. "That's one of the reasons I became a ninja." Felix smiled at the memory of first becoming a Genin. It was awesome. "I like being a ninja. I get to travel all over too. And though fighting gets a bit scary sometimes, it's nice when we all come out okay. It's like, you've beat the odds once again. You never know when your time is up, so you just have to keep moving forwards until there's nothing left. You sleep when you're dead, you know." Felix sighed. "That's how my dad lived his life, or so my mom says. And my mom, she lives her life like that too. I guess it's a family thing, but I like to think of it as my Shinobi Way"

Serenity merely rolled her eyes when he said that she ruined all the fun. "I'm only speaking the truth." Even if the truth was something the kid had to figure out on his own. Listening to the kid speak, the blond seeress couldn't help but to be a bit distracted. Something was off about him. Not now it wasn't, but...something would become of him. She just couldn't place a finger on what it was. Whatever it was, she hoped for the boy's sake it wasn't too bad. "That's a good way of life. It's why I treasure hunt. Beating the odds is thrilling though, isn't it?" she asked with a soft smile. At least, that was why she used to do it. Now it was just because she was bored. "Just what happened to your father?" she asked curiously. She knew she shouldn't get too attached to the kid, but something was driving her to it. A curiosity about him. She couldn't quite place it's cause though.

Felix nodded. "Yeps, I would agree." He rolled onto his back and crossed his arms behind his head, looking up at the bright blue shy. "Oh, my dad? I'm not exactly sure," Felix said honestly. "My mom says that he died right before I was born." Felix shrugged. "It doesn't bother me, although it would have been nice to have met him, at least once." Felix sighed. How does a person live without meeting their father. In all honesty, Felix was jealous of his friends who had both parents. Like after school, when they'd all break away and go with their dads, Felix was left alone. Usually the father's picked them up because it was the only time they had off, and in the Village of Fallen Rains, there wasn't really any female ninjas.

Serenity watched as the kid rolled onto his back and crossed his arms behind his head. Wasn't he just carefree? She looked at him, blinking once when he said that he didn't know what happened to his dad. "It's nice to see someone who doesn't let life get them down. Felix rolled his eyes. Didn't he tell her his name was Felix and not kid? When she said it was nice that he didn't let him get him down he almost spoke up, but decided against it. She was kind of right. Sometimes he wondered why he should be sad about a person he'd never met. His mom was everything he needed. "I know," was his eventual response. "So Lady, do you have any family?" He asked. "I mean, you're a treasure hunter and all, but surely there has to be someone out there, right?"

Serenity didn't really mind him calling her Lady. After all, she'd never told him her name. She shook her head. "No, not anymore. I lost them a long time ago," she told him simply. "I can deal with being alone, it's not that bad." Except then there's no one to watch your back, she thought plainly.

Felix shook his head. "Everyone should have a friend," he told her. He patted Kane on the tip of his nose. "Being lonely, it's insane. It's not logically possible for someone to live alone all their life, they'll go insane." He gave her a small smile. "So, how exactly did you fall in the river?" He asked. Serenity looked at the kid as he petted his badger, saying how everyone needed a friend. It wasn't so easy for people like her. If she could live in the Unknown with Syndryl as a friend, she would. But she wouldn't be able to stand that kind of lifestyle. And then Felix mentioned insanity. Yeah, she knew that concept well enough by now. She returned his small smile, looking at the river as he asked how she fell in. "I was following a clue to a puzzle," she told him. "You didn't see a giant wolf pass by earlier, right before I fell in, did you?" she asked, looking downstream before returning to him.

Felix shook his head no. "No wolves, I was watching the clouds, and river of course." He sat up and then stood up. "But I'll help you find it," he said with a rather distinct grin. "Kane here can track down anything." Felix stretched and held his hand out to Serenity. "Come on. I bet it headed downstream to lake. That's where all the weird animals go, and a giant wolf is bound to be down there." Kane shook his head in disagreement, but got onto all fours and started down the river.

Serenity looked at Felix in surprise when he said that he'd help her to find the wolf. She wasn't going to say no to that. "If it attacks, I want you to run, understand? That things big," she told him. It might've even been larger than his badger he had there. Taking his hand, Serenity pulled herself up, giving the kid a smile. It was kinda nice to be looking for a clue to treasure with someone for once. With a slightly excited gleam in her eyes, Serenity started after Felix and his badger.

Felix nodded. "Sure thing," he said. Felix of course didn't plan on running. Who ran from a wolf? He wanted to see how this would all play out. After all, if he ran, he'd be a coward. Putting his hands behind his head, he followed the badger to the lake. It was an awfully large lake, that looked really calm, but in truth, it wasn't calm at all. "Here we are," he said with a nod. "What does you wolf look like," he asked as he looked around the circle of trees that surrounded the area.
