Birth of a Demon Empty Birth of a Demon

Usually when a person died, they went towards a white light, or at least that's what he was told. Then again, how would anyone really know. Felix stood in the darkness, his blue eyes unblinking. There was eerie feeling about the place he was in. He wasn't sure where he was, but it gave him a bad feeling and that was enough to keep him from moving towards the light. All around him someone was speaking, there voice aged and exhausted.

"May the darkness engulf you soul, bringing you misery and pain. May your destiny turn course as Fate guides you to your purpose. Turn your back on the world and watch the world crumble beneath you. Let your soul wilt away like a dying flower, never to be reborn again. Let anger and hate be the only thing you feel. Bring your enemies to their knees and show no mercy. Love nothing and no one. Become a God in your own right and rest only when you have successfully completed your purpose."

Felix's face twisted in confusion. "What?" His eyes widened with horror at what was being said. He didn't understand and he wasn't sure he wanted to. He tried backing away, but an invisible force dragged him to the yellow light. The second he passed through it, Felix sat up, his eyes opening and a scream escaped him as pain shot through his very core. The Chunnin coughed several times, looking around quickly as his gaze landed on an elderly woman.

The woman looked at him with a soft smile. "You're finally awake, how do you feel," she asked.

Felix blinked in confusion. Her voice was so familiar, it was from his dream. "Where's Holland and the others," he asked.

The woman blinked. "I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't know who those people are."

Felix shook his head. "Holland, I was with him before I blacked out. He's a few inches taller than me with bl-"

"Sorry, you were alone dear," she told him.

Felix frowned, was this woman lying to him? His blue eyes narrowed in suspicion. "I was not alone," Felix snapped. "Holland was with me when I passed out and he was in just as bad a condition as I was." Felix looked down, noticing that his wounds were bandages. "He wasn't just my teammate, he was my brother...." Felix was starting to get worried.

The old woman clicked her tongue. "Memories," she said clicking her tongue. She got up from her seat. "Maybe you should lay back down," she told him. "Maybe you need a bit more rest."

Felix went to draw a weapon, but he'd been disarmed. Damn it! The chuunin started off the bed, but was stopped as his vision blurred. A yellow light surrounded him and then he collapsed.

"Troublesome boy," the woman growled. "I give you knew life and you treat me with such disrespect. You are mine," she said as she got to work. "You're life belongs to me. You are my prized possession and whether you like it or not. I was wronged so many year ago and you shall get revenge for me." The woman's eyes glowed angrily. "Memories are worthless tools that do nothing but remind you of all the happiness and joy, memories slow you down. You will be nothing more than a weapon. Forgive no one and forget nothing once you awaken."

The next day Felix woke up with a blank expression on his face. "Where am I?" He remembered nothing from the day before. The old woman had made sure of that.

"You're in my shack, I found you yesterday in the woods," a voice spoke. "My name is Kyla. I brought you here and fixed you up. How do you feel, would you like some tea?"

Felix shook his head. "Um, thanks. My name is Felix and no thank you. I need to get back to the Gears," he said. "I'm on a mission."

Kyla smiled. "That's understandable. Good luck."

Felix nodded with a small smile and got up carefully. It felt like he hadn't walked in days. "Again, thank you," Felix said as he left the house and headed for the Gears, only to stop when Kyla poked her head out of the door.

"Before you go, just remember, time goes on but your body will stay young, your soul wilts away and yet you stay. May your new life be an endless journey," she called after him.

Felix blinked. "Um, yeah," he said as he waved goodbye. "Weird old Gypsy."

Kyla smirked satisfied. The time had finally come.

Things may have been perfectly fine for Kyla, but Felix was about to get a rude awakening. Going to the Gears, he was informed that the mission was over and that no one from the Fallen Rains had returned. His blue eyes saddening he headed back home alone, but his welcoming was not one that he had expected.

"Oh God, Felix," Meridian breath as she tackled him, wrapping him in a hug. "Where have you been?"

"On my mission," Felix said as if it were just that simple. "I told you I was coming back...but...we failed the mission and I'm the only survivor." A pause. "I should go let my mom know I'm home," he said. "I'm sure she'll want to know I'm back."

Meridian moved away from him. "Felix...you've been gone for three years. The Stealth told us that no one had survived a year ago," she said quietly. "And...your mother...she passed away last month."

Three years? He'd only been asleep for a day or so, right? And what was this about his mother being dead? She wasn't dead, this was just some kind of sick joke. His mother was alive! He checked Meridian's face, to see if she was making a cruel joke, but he could see she was not joking. Felix broke down then and there in disbelief.

"I don't understand," he said. "I just woke up," he told her. "I just woke up."

Meridian didn't understand what he was talking about. Maybe he'd lost his memory or something, but whatever it was, she'd be there to help him through it. "If you want," she said quietly. "I will take you to her grave, along with the others."

Felix gave a shaky nod. Why was this happening to him? All he'd wanted was to go on a mission to pay for Meridian's ring and now he couldn't even do that. His heart sunk. My mother is dead. This was a cruel reality. He tried drawing on his memory, trying to remember what had happened, but all he remembered was being ambushed. Everything after that was blank.

Allowing Mer to guide him to the grave of his mother, Felix asked her to leave him to be alone. Meridian didn't protest as Felix grieved alone. Why did he have to go on that stupid mission? He knew he should just stayed home and taken care of his mother. She'd been sick for the longest and he could only imagine the amount of grief she'd felt when the news came back that her son was 'dead.' Felix shook his head.

Going home once it got dark, Felix noted how quiet it was. He missed his mother. Now he had no one but Meridian. He sighed and sat down, misery overwhelmed him as he cried, followed by anger. He had never felt more alone in his life.
