Kilix: A Flashback

Felix's blue eyes glowed lightly as he left Suki's shop and headed for Kim's house. He was looking forward to visiting his friend since he hadn't seen him in a few days. The guy had become like his best friend with his turquoise hair and light brown eyes. And his personality reminded him so much of Kymin. Felix really missed that goofy as man. He gave a slight sigh and then knocked on the door. "Babo! Open up, I know you're in there you gothic bastard." Felix's tone was nothing short of friendly. He loved that he'd come to the gears. Good people lived here and he felt at peace. He knew he'd made the right decision by staying.

Kim sat on his couch with his guitar propped on his lap, slowly strumming it. The melody was slow and a bit all over the place. His mind felt scattered today. It'd been that way for the past couple days, actually. Him and Jace had been dating for a couple months now, but two days ago they'd had a huge fight and Jace had left him. They'd had fights before, but they'd been small and minor compared to this one. Kim had tried calling the brown haired male, but each and every time he got no response. Each and every time Jace's phone went straight to voice mail.

Light brown eyes looked up from his guitar when he heard Felix pounding on his door and calling for him to open up. "The door's open," he responded. "Come on in." He probably should've moved that glass with the small bit of amber liquid at the bottom off the table, but he didn't quite have the will. He wasn't in the mood for anything but sulking. He'd really thought that him and Jace had been going somewhere. He might've even been in love with the guy.

Felix blinked when he was told the door was open. "Don't you ever learn," he mumbled as he pushed the door in and walked inside. He locked the bolt behind him and started over to the couch to sit beside Kim. "Hey there, why the long face," Felix asked. He'd become comfortable enough not to be nervouse about sitting so close to the brown eyed male. Kim was his friend and nothing more. Even if Felix did find him mildly attractive. Yes he was still having trouble deciding on what he wanted after that night with Kymin. Like he said, it'd never crossed his mind until that point. One could say he was a bit curious. "And have you been drinking?" He tilted his head to the glass on the table. "Can't figure out the notes to a killer song," he teased.

Kim rested his guitar on his lap once his silver haired friend came in. He gave a light shrug when Felix asked why he was looking so down. He wasn't sure he wanted to talk about it. Felix was cool and all, and they were close, but he wasn't sure something like this would be in the guy's area of expertise. "Yeah," he sighed lightly. He'd been drinking. Not a lot, but just enough to calm him down. Usually a single glass did the trick when it was something like this, but he found himself wanting more than that. He gave a small smile at the blue eyed man's teasing. "Not even close," he replied.

Felix smiled and ruffled the guy's hair. "What's up," he asked. "I'm all ears." His blue eyes were attentive and he easily wiped the amused look off his face. Kim wasn't usually like this, so Felix wanted to figure out the problem so he could fix it. "Are you being harrassed again?" Felix's tone was serious and very much concerned. The last time Kim had a problem with being harrassed the guy had nearly been killed. Felix had never had such a rush of emotions before about someone he barely knew, but Kim had been different, like Kymin. Felix felt a pain in his heart when he though of the green eyed male's sacrafice. He never wanted to see that happen again.

Kim gave Felix a raised eyebrow when the other male ruffled his hair. He ultimately shrugged it off though, because Felix was one of his best friends. He shook his head. "No, it's nothing like that," he said, giving a small dismissing wave of his hand. Harassment might've been better than this shitty feeling. Fear was better than misery, in his book. With a sigh, Kim sat back against the couch, blindly strumming his guitar once. He'd given up on the contacts a while back, so he was back to his normal glasses, which he adjusted on his face before speaking. "No, it's just that...me and Jace broke up a couple days back," he said with a small, defeated shrug.

Felix blinked his eyes when Kim shrugged him off. When the other male told him the problem Felix raised an eyebrow and shook his head. "Kim...there are other men in this world," he told him lighttly. "Breaking up hurts...but if he doesn't come back to you then he doesn't deserve you." His eyes glowed lightly. "You won't have to wait long." He smiled lightly. "Now cheer up." Felix probably wasn't the best advice giver. He went through relationships like toilet paper.

Kim only shook his head. "There's plenty of other men, sure, but there's only one of him." He paused and looked down at his electric blue guitar. "Nah, it's more like I don't deserve him. It's my fault we broke up to begin with," he sighed. "I don't think he's coming back." Never in his life had Kim thought he'd be the kind of guy to sulk over break-ups. Hell, he'd never thought that he'd be able to have a meaningful relationship anyways. A lot of people were still embarrassed about coming out of the closet, and were afraid of being seen in public with another man in that kinda way. So the idea of ever falling in love was something he hadn't found very likely. It was completely different when he considered it now though.

Felix sighed when Kim said there was only one Jace. He wasn't sure if he should ask how it was Kim's fault or not. Icy blue eyes looked across the room. "You're depressing," he mumbled lightly. "If you really like him then go talk to him." He looked to the man with glasses. "If he won't pick up the phone then go to his and make him listen." Of course Felix had no idea that Kim had already tried calling a myriad of times, he was just throwing out suggestions. "Let him know what he means to you before he's too far gone." Where the hell had that come from? Damn it, he really was getting his emotions back.

Kim wasn't one to get mad or irritated, or even extremely annoyed, but hearing Felix throw out suggestions like that just depressed him further, because he'd tried going to Jace's house, and even though he knew Jace was home, the guy wouldn't open up the door. He'd spilled his heart out right on the porch trying to get Jace to listen, but still he'd gotten nothing in return. Leaning forward, Kim let his guitar rest on his lap while he put his head in his hands. "I've tried everything Felix. I've called him, over and over again. I've left messages, I've gone to his house, but..." He sighed. "But still nothing." He didn't want it to be over, but maybe it really was. Maybe he'd lost the one fantastic thing he'd found in his life, because he didn't know how to put his work on hold.

Felix looked at Kim with a frown. "Then let's go to his house together. I'll make him listen to you." The blue eyed male had stopped smiling. "Come on, get dressed. You're a damn train wreck. We've got places to go," he said with a frown. "Don't make me drag you out of this house." Felix wouldn't drag him out though. That would have been rude of him.

Kim blinked and looked at Felix when he said they would go together. "No," he said quickly. "I'm not taking an ex-ninja over his house to try and get him to listen to me. Think about how that would look, Felix." Kim settled back down and rubbed the back of his neck slowly. "You know what..." He took a small breath. "Maybe it really is over." He shook his head. "I mean, I've tried everything, and he still won't talk to me. I think he's through with me." He wasn't usually one to give up so easily, but he was feeling more and more miserable by the moment.

Felix shook his head when Kim said no. So what if he was an ex-ninja. That didn't mean anyting. And technically speaking he was still a ninja. Felix decided not to comment on that. "Alright, fine. Don't go..." He crossed his arms and paced the floor with a frown on his face. "What happened between you two? You guys seemed happy, so explain." He turned his gaze to the other male and waited.

Kim almost didn't want Felix here. He hardly ever gave up on things that mattered to him, and to do so in front of another person, even Felix, just made it that much worse. When the silver haired ninja asked to explain, the blue haired male looked down. "Like I said, it was my fault. I focused too much on my work. I hadn't seen him for several days, and because of it we got into a huge fight." He paused. "It would've been an easy fix, but I...I get too caught up in building my weapons. He told me I needed to take a break from it because I was detaching myself way too much." He shook his head. "Hell, I could retire and be set for the rest of my life, but I...I was stubborn. And he walked out because of it." His shoulders fell and he put his guitar on the couch next to him. He didn't feel like holding it anymore.

Felix tilted his head. How many relationships had he fucked up because he'd failed to settle down and stop living as a ninja. Being immortal he could spare that kind of time but he never did. He remembered clearly all the times Serenity had healed him because of his job and the time a girl he'd taken a liking to had scolded him countlessly about his recklessness until she'd finally gave up on him. Felix had discarded her as if she was nothing. "Kim, listen, I'm no good at relationship advice. All mine has fallen through accept Suki." He walked over to the other male and took a seat. "Your work is important to you, and so was Jace. You shouldn't have to choose, but you did. We make mistakes, but learn from them too. Give him some time to cool down, okay? You've given him the message, it's his choice on whether he chooses to listen or not." Felix fell silent. "Either way you'll get through this and I'll be there every step of the way as your friend."

Kim looked at his friend as he spoke, his light brown eyes sad. He wanted to tell Felix that he didn't want to give him some time because Jace might get the wrong idea. He wanted to tell Felix that he thought he might be in love, but that sounded way too corny no matter how you wanted to try and phrase it. Taking a breath, Kim sat back. "Yeah...okay," he nodded. He'd give Jace some time. But each day that passed would probably hurt more than the last when he waited for the brown haired male to come over or call and neither of those things happened. Kim turned his head towards the silver haired male when he said he'd be there to help. He couldn't help but give a small smile. "Yeah?" His eyes softened a bit with his smile. "Thanks Felix."

Felix looked at Kim and nodded. He knew what it felt like to be heartbroken, but it wasn't time to share heart break stories. He was here to listen. Blue eyes shinned a little when Kim thanked him. "That's what friends are for. Now, tell me. Have you wrote any new music? I haven't seen you in a while. We've some catching up to do."

Kim blinked when Felix asked if he'd written any new music. "Sure have. But uh...I'd have to plug in my amp for it," he said. He could turn the volume down on it, but the song required the use of the sounds an electric guitar would make plugged in. He paused for a moment, wondering briefly if Felix was just making conversation, or if he actually wanted to hear it. "Yeah, it has been a while, hasn't it..?" he said lightly.

"Yeps, Suki keeps me preoccupied most days so I don't have time to visit. Have you missed me," he teased. He then nodded to the guitar. "Go on, let me hear it. I wasn't a fan of music til I met you." He smiled and leaned back, kicking off his shoes, and making himself at home. "Can I have a cup of whatever you're drinking," he asked. Of course he'd take it anyway, but he figured he'd ask.

Kim blinked at what Felix said. "You're lying. You're telling me...before you met me, you lived without listening to music?" He didn't believe it for a second. After all, Suki was a brilliant violinist. Anyone who had heard her play probably instantly fell in love with music. Shaking his head, the blue haired male got up, grabbing his glass as he did. "Yeah, sure thing. On the rocks?" he asked, making his way to the kitchen. Kim wasn't a big drinker, but he was a fan of scotch. He always had a bottle lying around his house somewhere, just in case. He poured Felix a small glass and refilled his own. He remembered Felix's tolerance level and figured the guy could withstand about two of these before he was on his way to bumbling drunkenness. Kim didn't buy cheap stuff. Going back into the living room, he handed Felix the new glass and put his own on the table. "Now then, be right back. I gotta go get my amp," he said, starting off into the back room.

Blue eyes glowed as the silver haired male listened to Kim's disbelief. "No sir, I've listened to music before, but not a guitar. You're the first I've taken interest in." He shrugged and took the glass when Kim came back with scotch. "You trying to get me drunk," he asked with a raised brow. He smiled and started on the beverage. His eyes closed for a brief moment after Kim left. I miss him....and I don't understand why.

"That's insane man. You're thirty-eight and have never listened seriously to someone playing a guitar," Kim said, shaking his head. "And you asked for what I was drinking," he called from the back room. The room he was in was soundproof and had about a gazillion different instruments in it as well as a couple microphones. There were a lot of cords, but he was used to navigating them. Anyone else probably would've tripped. Before getting his amp, Kim looked through a cabinet full of Cd's, pulling one of the cases out before grabbing his amp and taking it into the living room. "The guitar's not so good on it's own with this song. There's a couple different instruments in it," he said, putting the amp down and popping the Cd into his stereo before plugging the amp into the wall and then into his guitar. He took a drink of his scotch before taking the remote for the stereo and looking at Felix. "Ready?" He was honestly glad for two things about Felix's presence right now: One, the guy had asked for a drink, which gave the blue haired male an excuse to get himself another one. And two, Felix had asked about his music, another thing that tended to calm him down. He didn't want to think about the break-up right now, but he didn't want to stop thinking about Jace. Kim took a breath and sat down on the couch with his guitar in his lap, pressing play on the stereo. There were four clicks to the track before Kim started playing. If he could, he'd be playing all those instruments at once, but he couldn't, so he'd have to make due with playing the guitar that was missing from the track.

Felix waited for Kim to return with his equipment. The silver haired male in the mean time busied himself with drinking the scotch. He didn't very much like the taste, but a drink was a drink and he could do with a drink. It wasn't that he was stressed or depressed like Kim, but a drink was always nice and he'd never turned one down before. When Kim came back up and asked if he was ready he simply nodded. "Play away." When the blue haired guy began Felix smiled. He figured music would be a good release.

When Kim played, his attention focused purely on his playing. For the most part, his gaze was on his guitar, but not because he had to see where his fingers were at. He had this silly notion that maybe if he paid enough attention, then one day he could see the music flowing from his instrument. If it was this beautiful as a sound, it had to be more beautiful as a sight. He never actually realized that when he'd asked Suki to play for him that the beauty was actually coming from her and the sound combined. Every now and then Kim's eyes would briefly close at a part of the song he liked best, or his head would nod along to the background music. It was ridiculous how into his music he got sometimes. Once the song ended, Kim waited only a few moments before shifting and giving a small sigh of content. At the end of it there was a smile on his face and when he looked to Felix, he gave a small grin. "What'd ya think?"

Felix envied Kim and the way he just fell into his hobbies. The guy was so in tune with his music that it was almost impossible not to be fascinated. Felix smiled as Kim continued to play. It really was a good piece. Felix wondered if the guy had wrote it by himself and then played each instrument while recording it. When it was over and Kim asked him if he liked it, the silver haired shinobi nodded. "Can I get a copy," he asked. "And have you played this for Suki yet?" He smiled when he saw Kim smile. "You're talented, we should find a way to get you booked at a concert or something."
